Radiologist recruitment
Where radiology recruitment comes into focus.
Radiology is a specialist discipline — and recruiting within it demands more than a job board and a list of credentials. It requires genuine market knowledge, absolute discretion, and a partner who understands the clinical, commercial, and personal dimensions of every placement.
At ImagingHQ, we work with practices, groups, and hospital networks to find and place radiologists across all subspecialties and career stages — from early-career Fellows through to senior consultants, partners, and clinical leaders.
We also work directly with radiologists who are openly exploring the market or simply curious about what's out there, handling every conversation with the confidentiality it deserves. We understand the full complexity of the Australian radiology market — IMG pathways, College requirements, recognition processes, partner-level transitions, and the nuance of matching the right radiologist to the right environment. Whether you're hiring or exploring, you'll find a trusted advisor here, not just a recruiter.
Our areas of focus
Who we work with
We work with radiologists across the full spectrum of Australian medical imaging — from large private radiology groups and major hospital networks to boutique imaging clinics, teleradiology providers, and next-generation AI-enabled reporting platforms. Our clients range from some of the most recognised names in Australian radiology to independent practices looking to grow their team, subspecialty clinics seeking specific expertise, and innovative groups shaping the future of how imaging is delivered.
On the candidate side, we work with radiologists at every career stage — from fellows entering the workforce to senior consultants weighing up a partner-level move or a step into leadership. We also have deep experience supporting internationally trained radiologists navigating the Australian market for the first time.
What you won't find us doing is broadcasting opportunities indiscriminately or circulating CVs without permission. Every approach we make is considered, confidential, and purposeful — whether the brief is to quietly test the market, gauge interest in a specific candidate, or fill a role that simply can't be advertised.
FAQs
The questions we're asked most about finding and placing radiologists in Australia.
Why is it so difficult to recruit radiologists in Australia right now?
Demand for diagnostic imaging has grown significantly — driven by an ageing population, expanded Medicare MRI licensing, and the rollout of the national lung cancer screening programme — but the radiologist workforce hasn't kept pace. RANZCR training capacity is limited, attrition has increased sharply since COVID, and nearly a quarter of practising radiologists in some states are over 60. Most experienced radiologists are already employed and not actively looking, which means advertising rarely reaches the people you actually want. Finding the right candidate requires direct approaches built on genuine sector relationships — which is how we work.
What's the difference between recruiting a diagnostic radiologist and an interventional radiologist?
The candidate pools are entirely different in size and approach. Diagnostic radiologists, while in short supply generally, represent the larger cohort — the challenge is finding the right subspecialty fit and getting in front of passive candidates. Interventional radiologists are a far smaller group: procedural specialists with distinct training, equipment requirements, and salary expectations who almost never appear on job boards. Recruiting for IR requires proactive market mapping and direct outreach, and typically a longer timeline. The two roles also attract different candidate motivations — diagnosticians often prioritise reporting flexibility and workload mix, interventionalists tend to weight procedural volume, theatre access, and on-call structure.
We need a radiologist for a rural or regional location — can you help?
Yes — rural and regional recruitment is one of the most acute challenges in Australian radiology, and one of our areas of focus. Metro-based radiologists rarely apply to regional roles through standard channels, which is why most rural practices end up relying on locum cover or international recruits. Effective rural recruitment means active candidate persuasion: positioning the lifestyle, the clinical scope, relocation support, and any DWS incentives alongside the remuneration package. We identify candidates who are genuinely open to regional practice — not just those who haven't ruled it out — and for harder-to-fill locations can also model a locum-to-permanent pathway as a lower-risk entry point for both parties.
Can you help place overseas-trained radiologists into Australian practices — and how does AHPRA registration work for IMGs?
Yes, and international recruitment is increasingly necessary given domestic supply constraints. Overseas-trained radiologists must have their qualifications assessed for comparability with Australian standards — the pathway depends on the outcome: full comparability leads to general AHPRA registration, partial comparability to supervised or limited registration, and some candidates qualify via the Area of Need pathway for shortage locations. Visa requirements — typically a Subclass 482 or skilled migration visa — run in parallel and are managed separately. We guide both the employer and candidate through the process concurrently so registration delays don't stall the hire.
